You can create an outside space for them to run around in during the day, and the bigger the better. If you set up a post outside, you can tie the outside leaves of lettuce, cabbage, and so on, that would otherwise be thrown away, into a bunch and hang it a couple of feet off the ground so that they have to jump up to get at it. They love doing that. They also need a nest box or boxes in the shed on the floor level which is where they go to lay their eggs. Not only do you have great pets, but free fresh eggs as well!
If you have a very large garden or a field, you might choose to keep goats. They are sociable animals, so you need to have at least two, and they need at least a quarter of an acre of space each. The fencing needs to be strong because they will always want to see what is on the other side. They are also good at opening gates, so you need goat-proof locks!
